Celebrating Speedway Grit: The Legacy of the WSRA Steel Shoe Award

• The World Speedway Riders Association (WSRA) is proud to spotlight one of the most culturally significant symbols in motorcycle racing: the Steel Shoe Award.

While traditional trophies are forged from silver and gold, speedway history is built on the metal strapped to a rider's left boot. The steel shoe—or "hot shoe"—is the unsung hero of the dirt track, allowing riders to safely skim the shale at 80 mph with no brakes. This unique award honors the individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary determination, mechanical innovation, or lifetime dedication to the sport.
